The Karyatides win the Minister for Culture’s Award at the Huy Young Audiences Festival
Géants by the Karyatides theatre company, a partner of Varia, has won the Bénédicte Linard Minister for Culture Award! The prize was presented during the Huy Young Audiences Festival this week.
Congratulations to Karine Birgé and Marie Delhaye, who for over ten years have formed an astonishing duo, joyfully breaking free from the usual constraints of theatre for young audiences. Combining object theatre, shadow play, puppetry and music, their shows give pride of place to craftsmanship, the repurposing or recycling of materials, to which they breathe new life.
Géants ran from 20 to 28 January 2023 at the Théâtre Varia.
Woe betide anyone who tries to put them on a diet: in their Kingdom, the Giants devour everything in their path. The Queen stuffs herself, the King broods, and meanwhile, their subjects struggle, so short on legs that they can barely be seen. Nothing new under the sun: the people toil, the great ones lounge about. But one fine day, this little world starts to take on water…
If you’d like to see the play, head to Charlevilles-Mézières (France) in September and no doubt across Belgium in the coming months.
Congratulations once again to Les Karyatides and to all the winners of the Huy Young Audience Festival!
