Summary

One day, after school, a little girl learns that her mum has attempted suicide. Her mum could no longer see any reason to go on living. Our heroine then decides to make a list of all the wonderful things, those little trifles which, when added together, give meaning to life. From childhood water fights to the first stirrings of love, the list grows as she does, making us witnesses to a life where the ordinary is never far from the extraordinary.

How do we react after a blow, when all certainties are slipping away from under our feet? How do we cope with the grief of losing a loved one? What if, in the face of adversity, we tried to grasp the world in all its beauty and rough edges? Translated from the English, Duncan Macmillan’s play is an invitation to reconnect with what truly matters, through a shared moment. By endlessly celebrating the joy of being alive, it opens up the possibility of resilience, where pure energy can spring from despair.

With this show for all ages, Selma Alaoui creates a bubble of gentleness and kindness, where the boundaries between the audience and the stage blur. The list of ‘All the Brilliant Things’ grows, as funny as it is sensitive, as precise as it is universal, celebrating the complexity of feelings and human relationships. Through Juliette Ban’s breathtaking performance, this story becomes our own, and it is the very essence of our humanity that is at stake.

The inspiration for this story comes from a news item in Germany: one day, a father in Berlin started wearing dresses out of solidarity with his son, who wanted to dress only in that way. Working in perfect harmony, Clément Thirion and Marie Henry have crafted a colourful and joyful story about our relationship with social norms.
